Why is my electricity rate higher than when I signed up?

The rate you see when you sign up is the average rate at that exact amount of usage in one billing cycle.

Some companies try to game the system by applying bill credits between certain usage thresholds. It works great if you are within the margins, but as soon as you leave that band you no longer get that bill credit and your rate per kWh can double. The PUC only requires that companies disclose their average rates at 500, 1000, and 2000 kWhs. Companies can get around this by giving you a $50 bill credit if you use between 1000 and 2000 kWhs per billing cycle.

The only way to really know what you're getting into is to read your EFL. A 10¢ rate at all usage amounts may end up being cheaper than that 8¢ rate at 1,000 kWh!

Who Has the Cheapest Electric Rates & Bills in Dallas?

Which Electric Company Is Your Best Option Right Now?

Find the cheapest fixed-rate electric plan in Dallas for your home. Shop the plans that save you money.
With so many options out there, it’s easy to get overwhelmed or pick the wrong plan. We've done the sorting. Find out which providers offer the cheapest fixed-rate electric plan in Dallas.

Who has the cheapest electric rates and bills in Dallas? With electricity rates on the rise and winter still stirring up chills around Texas, finding a cheap fixed-rate electric plan can be a struggle. But that's where we come in. Let's break down the four cheapest options in Dallas right now to help you find the best deal.

Cheap Early Termination Fee Electric in Dallas

Secure 12 from Veteran Energy has a low energy charge of 7.75 cents per kWh. There’s a base charge of $9.55 per billing cycle if you use less than 1000 kWh. Once you add the TDU charges, the average estimated electric rate is 12.2 cents per kWh for 1000 kWh of use. At that rate, the average estimated bill is around $128.

The plan is only 6% renewable but can be upgraded to 100% Texas Wind when you pay an additional $19.95 per month. And there’s an early termination fee of $20 per month remaining in the contract.

Cheapest “Free” Fixed-Rate Electric in Dallas

Free Weekend-12 from Champion Energy Service is a “free” electricity plan in Dallas. You’ll pay 11.4 cents per kWh along with the TDU charges during the paid period. During the free period, you won’t be charged for usage. And your free period is from 12 midnight on Friday until 11:59 Sunday night.

With an estimated 30% of your use occurring during the free period, the average rate for 1000 kWh of use comes to 12.5 cents per kWh. That means an estimated monthly bill of around $123.

One cool perk about this plan is the Free Weekends Cash Back program. If you’re enrolled in this plan, you’ll get 5% of your electricity use during the paid period applied as a credit to your next month’s bill.

The Cheapest Fixed Rate Electric in Dallas

The Gruene 18 from Energy Texas offers a very low electric rate of 6.55 cents per kWh. There’s a monthly base charge of $4.95. And once you add in the TDU charges, the average rate for 1000 kWh of use is 11.5 cents per kWh. That’ll give you a very low average estimated bill of around $115 per month.

Come & Take It 12 from Energy Texas also has a low electric rate of 6.61 cents per kWh. It has the same base charge of $4.95. And with the TDU charges, the average rate for electricity at 1000 kWh of use is 11.6 cents per kWh. That’ll give you a slightly higher average estimated bill of $116 per month.

While both plans are 100% renewable, they do have a steep early termination fee of $150 if you wish to switch to a new provider before your contract ends. So, leaving the contract early could be expensive. That’s why it’s always important to compare electric rates and figure out your potential savings before making the switch to a new provider.

Which Electric Plan Offers the Cheapest Rates?

Ultimately, the cheapest plan for you depends on your use. If you’re at home a lot on the weekend and have high energy use, then the free weekend plan from Champion may be a good option. Don’t want to pay for renewable electricity but still want cheap rates? Either plan from Energy Texas will work. However, if you want to avoid expensive early termination fees, then the plan from Veteran Energy can get you there.

What Happens at The End of Your Electric Contract?

Before the contract ends, you'll receive a renewal notice from your provider telling you what your options are after the contract ends. If you don't renew your contract or switch to a new plan, you'll be moved to the default renewal product. This is usually a month-to-month plan which can be quite expensive. For that reason, don't forget to shop for a cheap electric provider in the Oncor service area before your contract ends.

How Can I Save BIG on Dallas Electric?

You’ve got the power to choose the cheapest electric rates in Dallas. The key to saving big is knowing your energy use and picking the perfect plan for your home. But with so many options out there, it’s easy to get overwhelmed or pick the wrong plan.

That’s why you should visit www.texaselectricityratings.com/ for help shopping Dallas electric providers. You’ll find the best tools and tips to sort through the plans before choosing the perfect one for your home.

Want a consistent monthly bill from your light company? See how controlling your usage saves you more when you shop these flat rate electricity plans in Cypress.

How Can You Save With Flat Rate Electricity in Cypress?

Consistency is why we love fast food restaurants. You know you can get the same Big Mac in Los Angeles, New York, and everywhere in between. Consistency in your retail electricity usage can save you money with flat rate electricity in Cypress. If you can peg your usage consistently to just below a big price jump in a flat rate plan’s pricing structure, you can maximize the plan to its fullest. Let’s take a look at some of the plans with flat rate electricity in Cypress.

Two Plans, One Great Price

The Veteran Energy Smart 12 and 4Change Energy Easy Saver 12 plans have nearly identical electricity facts labels. All usages between 1 and 1,000 kWh have the same bill. And both have the cheapest flat rate electricity in Cypress.  Their average rate is 10.5 cents with an average bill of $126. So, customers pay just $105 for the first 1,000 kWh of usage.  After that, the retail company charges 17.9 cents per kWh. That’s pretty steep, so you want to make sure your usage stays near 1,000 kWh.  Both these retail electricity providers strongly support charity work in their communities. Veteran Energy focuses on military charities that support past and present members of the armed forces. Meanwhile, 4Change Energy supports organizations that fight hunger, cancer, and childhood illness as well as those that aid in disaster relief. So pick your cause, and pick your power provider. With both these plans and any other Texas electricity plan, you need to know when your plan will end. Fortunately, retail electricity providers must warn you in advance. If you fail to pick a new plan, your current provider switches you to a variable rate plan upon your contract’s expiration. You definitely don’t want that because you’ll pay more than is necessary. Shop Texas electricity plans well before your plan ends.

More Flat Rate Electricity in Cypress

After these two plans, the prices for flat rate electricity jump quite a bit. The next cheapest plan is the Gexa Superb Saver 12 plan from Gexa Energy. Its rate is 17.6 cents, and the average bill is $176. Do you want to pay $50 more per month? We didn't think so.

Consistent or Inconsistent Power Usage

Is your electricity usage consistent like clockwork? If so, one of these flat rate electricity plans could be great for your home. If you’re not so sure about that, check out other plans at https://www.texaselectricityratings.com.
