Q: If I switch, will my new electricity be as reliable?
A: Yes. Since the generation, transmission and distribution of your power is still provided by your current local wires company, you get the same level of reliability. The only thing that changes is the amount of money you save, your bill, and the customer service you receive. The same local wires company you use today will maintain the poles, wires, meters and electricity to your home regardless which Retail Electric Provider (REP) you select.

Q: What happens if I have an emergency or power outage?
A: Because your current local wires company is still responsible for the maintenance and repair of the poles and wires, you will call them in the event of an emergency or outage. Their numbers are provided below, and on your bill.

AEP Central (CPL service area) 866-223-8508

AEP North (WTU service area) 866-223-8508

CenterPoint (Reliant service area) 800-332-7143

Oncor (formerly TXU service area) 888-313-4747

Sharyland Service Territory: 1-956-668-9551

TNMP (First Choice service area) 888-866-7456

Q: If I switch, will my service be interrupted?
A: No. Your current local wires company will continue to deliver your electricity exactly as it does today, with the same power lines, service trucks and support you get now. The only difference will be your bill and your savings.

Q: If I switch, will you have to install new power lines?
A: No. You will use the same power lines you use today. With Simple Power, you have:

  • No new power lines
  • No new meters
  • Same meter readings
  • Same repair service
  • Same repair number
  • Same emergency contact number

Q: What happens if I switch to a new Retail Electric Provider (REP) and they go out of business?
A: The electricity industry is regulated by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT). If your REP leaves the market for any reason, this commission regulates that your service will automatically be transferred to the Provider of the Last Resort (POLR) with no loss of service. Notification of any such change is automatically generated and forwarded to the customer.

Q: How do I transfer my electric service?
A: It's easy to transfer your Simple Power account to a new address, without any interruption in service. Your fastest option is to transfer online. Or you can reach us by phone at 888 TX Simple (1-888-897-4675). We'll take it from there. You don't have to contact your current provider or anything else. We will do all the work for you, from canceling your old service to setting up billing.

Q: Do all Texans have the power to choose their electric provider?
A: No. City-owned utilities and member-owned electric cooperatives have the option of giving their customers a choice of providers, or keeping things the way they are today. To see if you live in a Simple Power service area, click here.
